Dr Iain McGee

Iain is the Head of English Language Studies faculty. He earned his PhD from Cardiff University, UK, in 2006. Since that time he has published research in various international journals and presented papers at conferences on a variety of subjects within the fields of applied linguistics and TESOL. His current academic interests are in discourse analysis, genre analysis, paragraphing, and writing pedagogy. Iain taught in HEIs in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in Oman, before joining Majan College in June 2016. He believes all students should be researchers – asking questions, finding answers, and then asking more questions!

Dr. Rajat Ghosh

Dr. Rajat is an Associate Professor with over 20 years of teaching experience. Dr. Rajat has been teaching mainly on the BA(Hons) in English Language programme at Majan since 2005. His specialised areas of interest are formal linguistics, applied linguistics, corpus linguistics and English grammar. His current research focus is on enhancing student motivation through successful task-creation, task-administration and task-assessment and how to incorporate student input of language for descriptive and analytical skills. He has guided research assignments in the broad areas of motivation, language change, pronunciation variations and comparative linguistics.

Abdelseid Hamid Sharafeldin

Abdelseid is a Senior Lecturer in English Language studies and he joined Majan College in October 2001. He has a B.A. in English Literature; a Masters in Communicative English; a Post Graduate diploma in the Teaching of English; a Diploma in Translation; a Certificate in American Culture and Civilization; and an M. Phil. in English Language Teaching. He is currently reading for his Ph.D.He has taught a variety of modules at all levels of the undergraduate programmes in Majan including English Language and Academic Skills, Intensive Academic Reading in English, General and Academic Writing in English, Personal and Professional Development.

Anita Teresa Boggu

Ms. Anita Teresa Boggu is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language Studies at Majan University College. She has an M.A in English Literature and a CELTA qualification. She has taught a variety of modules on the undergraduate programmes including English Language and Communication Skills, Academic Writing in English, Integrated Language Skills, English for Professional Development and Academic Reading and Writing for Business. She is the module coordinator for Integrated Language Skills for Business. She is the recipient of various teaching excellence awards including the Best Teacher Award, 2006 and the 1st Prize for using 'Authentic Materials, 2010, both awarded by the Ministry of Education, Oman. 

Dr. Larysa Nikolayeva

Dr. Larysa Nikolayeva earned her PhD in Linguistic Typology in 2005. Her research included the study of 40 languages belonging to 10 language families. Her research interests are mostly connected with typological word-building, typological semantics, polysemy and typological universals. She teaches: Intensive academic reading, General Writing and Academic Writing on the BA (Hons) English Language programme. She is also the module coordinator for English for Specific Purposes and part of a teaching team for General and Academic Writing and Personal Development and Communication Skills offered by the Faculty of Business Management. 

Belema Edet

Belema Edet, lecturer and quality assurance coordinator for the Foundation program, holds an LLB in Law, B.Ed in English Education and is completing an MA in TESOL, she teaches Academic Writing, Vocabulary in Communication, language and communication skills modules. Her areas of interest include EAP, ESP, teaching methods and motivation.

Dr Tulika Mishra

Tulika is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of English Language studies. She has been teaching EFL on the Foundation and undergraduate Programmes at Majan University College since 2008. She Holds a Ph.d in English Literature. For her, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. Her research interest includes uses of literature in language pedagogy and critical thinking regarding the use of language in literature. One of her hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in her students. Her philosophy of teaching is that, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." 

Majid Shatery

Majid has been teaching EFL on the Foundation programme at Majan University College since 2002. He currently co-manages the Foundation Programme. He holds an MA in English Language Teaching from Tehran University, Iran. His research interests include methods of English teaching and application of skills-based EFL materials.

Dr. Farhad Tayebipour

Dr. Farhad Tayebipour is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language at Majan University College. With over 14 years of teaching experience, Dr.Tayebipour joined Majan University College in September 2014. His areas of interest are second language acquisition, L2 pragmatics and L2 dynamic assessment.He teaches Second Language Acquisition, Semantics and Pragmatics, Academic Writing in English, and Academic Reading and Writing for Business.

 

George Puthery Louis

George P.Louis joined the faculty of English Language Studies at Majan College as a Lecturer in English in March 2014. He holds an MA in English Literature from Osmania University, India, a post graduate diploma in teaching English from CIEFL, India and CELTA. He was in the Ministry of Education, Oman for 15 years and in 2009 was honoured with the best teacher award. At Majan, he teaches Grammar in Context, Vocabulary in Communication and basic research skills. He believes that, "True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own.”

   

Dr. Daisy Lamis

Dr. Daisy is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of English Language Studies. She holds a degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Language Education. She teaches Basic Research Skills, Grammar in Context and Academic Writing at the Foundation Programme; Academic Reading and Writing for Business at the Faculty of Business; and, Technical Writing and Presentation Skills in English at the Faculty of Information and Technology. . She considers herself a dynamic and resourceful teaching professional with a genuine interest in students' cognitive and social growth.

Mohammed Tanveer

Mohammed Tanveer teaches a variety of English language modules including English Language Study and Academic Skills, Academic Writing, Academic Reading, Grammar in Context, Reading and Vocabulary Building in English, English for Professional Development and Communication in Business/IT, Integrated Language Skills for Business/IT, and Basic Research Skills. He has also been a Quality Assurance Co-ordinator of the English Foundation Programme. His teaching Philosophy is a student-centered teaching approach that inspires learners and offers new learning experiences. He completed his Master of Education (M. Ed) in English Language Teaching from the University of Glasgow in 2007.

Aziza Amir Ali

Aziza Saghir Shah has been teaching Business and Accounting on the Foundation programme and various Business modules on the undergraduate programme since 2003. She is currently a semester coordinator of the Foundation Programme. She holds an MBA (Marketing) from the University of Hull, UK. Her research interests include Human Resource Management and Customer Service.Teaching Philosophy: I try to teach each student as an individual, because each will have different needs based on their own unique situation, and these are shaped by "intelligences," by cultural background, by the major they choose, and countless other factors. 

Aliya Parveen

A.V. Avinash Kumar

Mr. A.V. Avinash Kumar is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language at Majan University College. This is his sixth year in Majan College and he has an M.A in English Literature and an M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is presently pursuing a PhD in Linguistics. His research interests are in the Impact of Technology on English Language and transformation of English language with Innovative technologies. He has co-ordinated and taught ESP English modules for the IT programme and presently co-ordinates Technical Writing and Presentation Skills in English (TWPSE) and teaches English modules for undergraduate students, both in the IT and Business programmes.

Muhammed Ibrahim Farooq

Muhammed Ibrahim Farooq is a Lecturer in English in the Faculty of English Language at Majan University College. He has been teaching English language for 16 years. Samih Hamed Al Busaidi

Mr. Samih Saud AlBusaidi is an English Language Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language at Majan University College. He has a B.A in TESOL (University of Leeds U.K.) and an M.A. in TESOL (University of Birmingham U.K.) With over 27 years of teaching experience. He was Regional English Language Supervisor for seven years in the Ministry of Education Oman. His research interests include Classroom Discourse and Discourse Analysis.

Shaik Inam Rahman

Mr. Shaik Inam ur Rahman, is a Lecturer in English Language and he joined Majan college in September 2012. In his career, he has taught students from secondary level to the undergraduate level. He has received the best teachers' honour twice (2006 &2009) and the best presentation award (2007) from the Ministry of Education, Oman. He holds a Masters Degree in English Language and literature with ELT specialization, CELTA and a B Ed. He deems teaching as one of the best fields to be in, when it comes to serving the community. His main areas of interest include experimenting new ways to improve the students' writing skills.

Mubarak Al- Menwari

Mubarak Al-Menwari is an English Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language at the Majan University College. Abdullah Al Badi

Abdullah Saif Salimeen Al Badi joined Majan College (University College) 2013 as an English language lecturer. He received a MA in Curriculum and Instructional in teaching English from the Muaata University Jordan. At Majan College he teaches ELSAS, AR, VIC and BRS on the foundation Programme. He typically supervises graduation projects related to English and/or Arabic phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and discourse. As a teacher, Abdullah Al Badi is primarily interested in reading skill and teaching grammar in the context.

Dr. Sadiq Ali Shaikh

Dr. Sadiq Ali Shaikh joined Majan College (University College) in 2013 as an English Lecturer. He received a PhD and MPhil in English Literature from the Department of English Language Studies at Karnataka University Dharwad (India). In addition to that, he has also received a CELTA (certificate of English teaching to adults) qualification from Cambridge University. At Majan College he coordinates and teaches a variety of skills-based modules delivered by the English Faculty. These include Reading and Vocabulary Building in English on the BA English Programme; Academic Reading and Writing on the degree programmes of the Business and IT Faculties; and English Language Study and Academic Skills, Grammar in Context, and Basic Research Skills on the Foundation Programme. Dr. Sadiq's research interests include the use of literature as a medium for teaching English - i.e. Literature in ELT (English language teaching).

Yevette Mathew

Yevette Mathew is an English Language lecturer in the Foundation of English Language Studies at Majan College. She joined Majan University College in February 2014. Yevette was a lecturer at Dhofar University. She holds her Masters in English Language and Literature, Diploma in TESOL (UK) and Certificate in IELTS (UK). She has 18 years of rich teaching experience. She has handled a range of both teaching at school and college to Omani students for 14 years. She is also a member of TESOL Arabia. She has presented papers at Sultan Qaboos University, ELT Conference. She believes in molding the linguistic abilities of the learners in such a way that they are diligently compatible to meet the requirements and challenges of the ever competitive outside world.

Jainy Varghese

Joined Majan college as a lecturer in Mathematics in September 2014. She finished both her Master Degree and Bachelor Degree in Mathematics. Also she holds B Ed in Mathematics. She worked as a Mathematics Lecturer for more than 4 years in India. Her research include Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. She Prefers to teach using inductive and deductive method which help the students to find their own path and proceeds according to their own light.

Hajer AL-Majarafi

Ms. Hajer is an graduated student from Majan College; January 2014 and in June 2014 she started working as an English Language teacher in the Faculty of English Language at Majan College (MCUC). She received her Bachelor degree in English Language Validated and Awarded by the University of Bedfordshire, UK with an overall classification of 1st class borderline and she received certificates of Academic Excellence and Achievement... She is teaching different modules in the foundation programme. She is a TESOL member and presently pursuing her CELTA as she believe that every finish line is the beginning of a new race. Dr. Christopher Gnana

Dr. Christopher holds a PhD in ELT (English Language Teaching), M.Phil. and B.Ed. in English, and CELTA from the Cambridge University. He has been teaching English Language since 1996. He began his teaching career in Oman with the Ministry of Education in 1996, continued working there till 2005. He joined the Higher College of Technology in Muscat in 2007 as a Lecturer in English Language, and served at the Post Foundation program for 8 years. Dr. Christopher joined Majan University College in Sep, 2015 and he is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of English Language Studies. He teaches Academic Writing in the Foundation Program, and Academic Reading and Writing for the undergraduates. His research area is ‘developing communicative competence’ and he has published five research articles in reputed refereed journals. Teaching is a passion for Dr. Christopher, and he has been striving hard to make it even more effective every time he meets his students in the class.
